2007’s Pac-Man Championship Edition and its 2010 DX remaster was by most measures a really nice surprise, a game that took the thirty-six year old Pac-Man gameplay formula and turned it into an endless high-speed quest for points, power pills, maze-modifying fruit and the consumption of enormous chains of ghosts.
Those looking for some fresh Pac-Man Championship fun are in luck, because Bandai Namco have announced that a sequel, appropriately titled Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, will be coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One this September.
The new features shown in the announcement trailer include some mind-bending 3D transitions between full maze layouts, boss fights, expansions on the ghost chaining system (you can now have up to four full ghost trains chasing you at once), new unique visual styles and more.
Eric Hartness, Vice President of Marketing at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc., had this to say on the game’s announcement:
Terrific gameplay is always in fashion and after 36 years as a videogame icon, PAC-MAN still brings fun and smiles to the faces of countless gamers around the world. PAC-MAN has always promoted friendly competition, and we’re chomping at the bit to see PAC-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION 2 ignite friendly rivalries among friends and families to achieve the highest score.
Here’s hoping that Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 can capture all the lightning-fast dot-chomping action of the first and then some.
