Following the success of Pokémon Go, movie executives were once again sniffing around for a good opportunity to turn this current trend into a movie, and now that movie has been confirmed.
Legendary Pictures has revealed that it’s making a live-action Pokémon Movie that’ll focus on Detective Pikachu, the character from the recently announced Great Detective Pikachu game for the Nintendo 3DS, which launched in Japan in February.
Of course, this announcement hasn’t just come out of the blue, The Pokémon Company and Legendary Pictures have been in talks over this for months, and now it’s finally happening… But will Dani DiVito star as Detective Pikachu? We sure hope so.
The Great Detective Pikachu game will star everyone’s favourite electric-infused hamster who has been described as intelligent and “peculiar”, who teams up with a young boy named Tim Goodman to help him solve mysteries involving other Pokémon around the city.
Legendary has told Variety that details are being kept under wraps for the moment, but the film is being fast-tracked to ensure production can begin next year. As for a release, we can likely expect to see the movie sometime in 2018/19 depending on the length of production.
