Remember back in October last year when No Matter Studios unveiled their latest game, Prey for the Gods which looked very heavily inspired by Shadow of the Collossus? Well, things have been pretty quiet since then, but now it’s back… and on Kickstarter.
Initially unveiled in Autumn with a trailer, the game showed some promise as the player character clambered their way atop a giant monster in order to take him down. At the time, we heard the game was set for a PC release, and there was no word on the game needing funding to actually become a reality.
Alas, here we are with a Kickstarter campaign for the game where No Matter Studios, a relatively small studio, are seeking $300,000 to make the game a reality. A pretty small number for a game which looks so ambitious, even for a fairly small studio.
The game, as you’d expect, has players facing off against giant creatures, each of which require a unique tactical approach, is just the start of trying to survive in this game. Apparently the environment is just as unforgiving as players are required to find food, shelter, and equipment.
“Exploration is rewarding but risky. Luckily, your footsteps in deep snow will help guide you back if you get lost. However, the deeper the snow the more tired and hungry you will be,” the Kickstarter says. “Spend too long out in the cold and risk exposure that will chill you to the bone. Our dynamic weather system is treacherous and ever changing. From a sunny day, to a blizzard at a moment’s notice you never know what to expect. The weather is just as dangerous as the giants you are after. A trek out to find your next foe could have you changing course and looking for shelter to warm yourself.”
The plan, according to the Kickstarter page, is to launch with five bosses, though more will be added if stretch goals are met. The game itself is around 25 percent finished, and is on track for a December 2017 release date, though they have said that this date may slip if things don’t work out as planned.
