Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration Brings the Game to PlayStation 4, PS VR

Following the recent listing leaks which revealed a supposed October 11 release date for Rise of the Tomb Raider on PlayStation 4, Square Enix has today confirmed that the game will indeed be launching on PlayStation 4 as a new Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration edition.

Rise of the Tomb Raider will be coming to PlayStation 4 on October 11, Square Enix has revealed, as a brand new Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration which bundles the game together with all of the post-launch content, as well as a completely new story chapter entitled “Blood Ties”, new co-op Endurance gameplay, and PlayStation VR support.

Yep, you read right, Rise of the Tomb Raider will support PlayStation VR… sort of. VR support will be coming in the form of the new chapter, “Blood Ties”, not the entire game.

There’ll also be a Limited Edition version that’ll include an art book.

In addition to this news, Square Enix has also announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will also be coming to Xbox One and PC, excluding the VR support. Season Pass owners on Xbox and PC will receive this new content for free, with the Season Pass being updated to include the new content.

“The studio is celebrating with all Tomb Raider fans, thanking them for being on Lara’s 20 year journey with us,” said Scot Amos, co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. “The team has packed in surprises, new story, and the top-requested special features into this 20 Year Celebration edition.”

So, what’s the new chapter all about? Well, the game throws players back to the Croft Manor as players defend it against a zombie invasion in “Lara’s Nightmare”.

The game description reads:

“When Lara’s uncle contests ownership of the Manor, Lara must explore the estate to find proof that she is the rightful heir, or lose her birthright and father’s secrets for good. Players can then test their zombie-killing skills in the replayable “Lara’s Nightmare” mode: a haunted Croft Manor where players have new challenges and must rid the Manor of an evil presence.”

In this instance, PlayStation VR support allows players to experience this chapter in first person.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20th Anniversary Celebration launches on October 11.
