Tomb Raider Movie will Focus on 2013 Reboot

The upcoming Tomb Raider movie starring Alicia Vikander will focus on the 2013 reboot of the franchise, the actress has revealed this week.

In an interview with HitFix, Vikander shared more details on the upcoming movie, adding that it’ll focus more on Crystal Dynamics; 2013 Tomb Raider reboot. She also hopes that the film can touch on the “emotional aspect” of Lara Croft’s journey from a budding explorer to a hardened tomb raider.

“They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013,” she said. “That is more of an origin story. You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that’ll stand on its own two legs.”

Earlier this year, director Roar Uthaug praised the 2013 release, saying that his movie will try and do something similar and will make Croft come across as a “real human being,” rather than an action movie hero.”I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that’s definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well,” he said. “I think we’ll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I’m hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise.”

The new Tomb Raider movie hits theaters on March 16, 2018. Right now a lot of the movie’s information is being kept under wraps, with Vikander being the only actor cast for the movie right now.
