Following the free-to-play relaunch of Evolve “Stage 2”, Turtle Rock has today released a new update for the game which includes a new playable Hunter, even more balance changes, and a new “try before you buy” option, among other things.

“Try before you buy?! But it’s a free-to-play game, how does that work?” Yeah, those were my thoughts too. Because the game is now a free-to-play title, Turtle Rock will be keeping some of the game’s characters behind a paywall. These characters can then be purchased using Silver Keys which can be earned during play.

This new try-before-you-buy feature will unlock all hunters, monsters, skins and perks in the game’s Training mode, so you can get a feel of these characters, monsters, and more before actually spending your hard earned keys.

With that out of the way, lets move onto the next big addition to the game: Quantum Caira. This new character is a variation on the game’s current Medic, Ciara Diaz. A new trailer has been released which shows the new-ish character in action, check that out below.

Her abilities include:

  • Proton Field- Deploys a zone that damages enemies over time. Multiple fields stack.
  • Regeneration Field – Deploys a Generyst™ zone that heals each nearby Hunter over time. Multiple Regeneration Fields stack.
  • Neutron Barrier- Applies a short damage-resistance buff to all nearby Hunters.
  • Generyst II Field: Heals hunters and damages monsters in the area for the duration of the effect.

Finally, the update will offer a number of other improvements including the “first steps towards improving widespread community issues on matchmaking and leavers,” as well as some additional balance changes and a series of Advanced Hunter tutorials.

Since the relaunch, Evolve Stage 2 has been going from strength to strength, with the update post adding:

“From fewer than 200 PC players just days before the re-launch on July 7, Evolve Stage 2 now has more than 2-million players worldwide in less than one month.”

That’s pretty impressive.
