Rather than creating a brand new Rocksmith game for 2016, Ubisoft has decided to slap the “remastered” sticker on their game from 2014 and will be relaunching it again later this year.

Rocksmith 2014 Edition – Remastered is an “updated and improved” version of the 2014 release, according to Ubisoft, and will be available on October 4. It’ll come digitally to new users and as a free update to existing players through a downloadable patch on all platforms.

Ubisoft has revealed that nearly four million people have learned to play the guitar and bass through the “Rocksmith method” and hopes that even more will join that number with the re-release.

The re-release will be largely the same as the 2014 edition, though it will come with six new, bonus downloadable songs from a wide variety of genres, from Bob Marley & The Wailers, to FUN., to Outkast.

As the release looks to be digital-only players interested in getting into the game will likely still have to purchase the physical version of the game in order to grab the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable.

We’ve reached out to Ubisoft for clarification.
