Although we’ve known for a while that Nintendo plan to unveil a new console sometime within the next few months, the company has yet to reveal official details about the device, currently titled Codename NX, or Nintendo NX.
However, that hasn’t stopped information form finding its way onto the Internet and thanks to numerous reports we have some idea what to expect: A hybrid device which acts as both a handheld device and a home console.
While none of this information has been directly confirmed by Nintendo, sources who have revealed such information have been pretty credible. The latest slip of the tongue however comes from The Pokémon Company’s CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara who dropped a pretty big hint about the console.
Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Ishihara said “It [the NX] is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device”. Also adding “We will make games for the NX”.
So there’s two things we can take from this. The first is obvious, Pokémon games will be coming to the Nintendo NX. The second thing is that this is another hint that the console will be a hybrid device working as both a handheld and home console.
There’s word that we’ll hear more about the NX this October with a proposed March 2017 release date.
