During Apple’s iPhone Keynote today, the company announced that Pokémon Go, probably the most explosively popular AR game, ever, will be coming to the Apple Watch. Yes, soon you’ll be able to hunt for Pokémon right from your wrist.
John Hanke, CEO of Niantic Labs took to the stage to announce the new app, revealing that Pokémon Go has been downloaded more than 500 million times. To top that, trainers have walked more than 4.6 billion kilometers while playing. Which is incredible!
Now onto the Apple Watch app, the app pretty much takes familiar cues to the PlayStation Plus accessory, which is set to launch later this year. It’ll allow users to see how far they’ve walked and which Pokémon are nearby. As you walk, it shows you notifications when you’re near Pokémon, and near Pokéstops, and gyms.
It’ll then allow you to interact with the notification right from the watch, as well as logging your Pokémon walk as a workout within your Apple Health app.
Pokémon Go for Apple Watch will launch before the end of the year.
