At Apple’s Keynote last week, where they unveiled the iPhone 7 and the Apple Watch Series 2, Niantic Labs took the stage to unveil that Pokémon Go would be getting Apple Watch compatibility. Now it looks like that compatibility will be coming to Android Wear, too.
Although there’s currently no official word of an Android Wear update for Pokémon Go, typical sleuths have taken a look through the latest version of the game’s code and have discovered some references to Android Wear.
It’s worth mentioning that this is mostly speculation as others have suggested that the code merely points to Android compatibility for the Pokémon Go Plus, Nintendo’s accessory which will allow players to catch Pokémon and check-in to stops right from their wrist.
That being said, I doubt Niantic Labs would favour iOS over Android on this occasion as the game launched on both platforms almost simultaneously and have showed no signs of favouring one OS over another.
Right now there’s currently no release date for the Apple Watch support, so there’s a good chance both Apple Watch and Android Wear support could come at the same time.
