After a fairly long development time and a road that many have been following from the start, Final Fantasy XV has gone gold. Square Enix made the announcement along with releasing a new trailer dubbed ‘Omen’ to mark the milestone.
The trailer is a conceptual CG cinematic trailer creators in partnership with 3D animation studio DIGIC Pictures who also worked on Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV. The trailer, in all it’s breathtaking glory is a nightmare of a journey for Noctis as he navigates a shifting world against endless waves of enemies. During which he loses his abilities and starts to fall to the madness around him. The trailer, which has a much darker tone then others up to now, depicts a nightmarish ‘omen’ for Noctis’ father King Regis. The catastrophic events that unfold are the signs of a future that must be avoided.
Alongside the announcement of the game going gold and the new trailer is the news that a section of the team will now shift focus to work on post launch DLC content as part of the season pass. The season pass will be mainly focused on three original episodes that take place during the events of Final Fantasy XV. These will allow players to take control of one of the three comrades in the game to offer unique play styles and gameplay. Episode Gladiouls will be the first to arrive with Episode Ignis and Episode Prompto to follow.
Lastly there was also the announcement that following the character episodes an expansion pack titled ‘Comrades’ will be released introducing a new online co-op mode for up to four players. This will feature intense battles allowing players to control Noctis, Gladio, Prompto and Ignis as a group. Like the episodes, it will be included in the Season Pass but also be available for purchase separately as well.
No new news on the Final Fantasy XV PlayStation VR experience yet by the way.
