It’s taken 20 years and the poor girl has been through a lot, but finally it looks like Lara Croft getting the recognition she deserves as the Golden Joystick Awards is entering her into their Hall of Fame.
Lara Croft has probably become the most well known and iconic characters in gaming, so it comes as no surprise that she’s being added to the Golden Joystick Awards Hall of Fame. This honour is pretty well deserved too as it’s reserved for games and characters that have changed the face of gaming – I mean, in my local city there’s an entire road named after Lara Croft, so…
This all couldn’t come at a better time either as Square Enix celebrates 20 years since the first Tomb Raider game launched in 1996. The series as a whole has sold over 46 million copies, and continues to go strong even after Crystal Dynamics rebooted the series in 2013. Now, with Rise of the Tomb Raider launching on all platforms, that legacy can constituent well into the future.
The Golden Joystick Awards takes place on November 18 at the indigO2. Players can vote right now for their favourite games to win in various categories, though voting closes on October 31. Those who do vote can receive three games for just £1, which is a pretty good insentive if you ask me.
There are a total of 21 public categories for players to vote such as Best Gaming Moment in association with Absolute Radio, Gaming Platform of the Year, and Competitive Game of the Year.
