Sherlock fans rejoice! We finally have a date for what could be the final series of the award winning series, Sherlock. Set to be a perfect way to see in a new year, Season 4 is expected to premiere on January 1, 2017.
The first episode, titled The Six Thatchers, will see Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman come back together as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively. The season as a whole will consist of three feature-length episodes, and is set to be the darkest thing the showrunners have ever written.
So far, what we know about the new series is that Toby Jones (Infamous) had joined the cast as a villain and that ghosts could feature heavily in the new season. There are also three keywords for the season, Thatcher, Smith and Sherrinford, the former being in the title of the episode which itself a play on the Sherlock Holmes short story title, The Adventure of the Six Napoleons, or The Six Napoleons.
There has also been word that this may be the final series of Sherlock, as both the showrunners and Cumberbatch himself have made hints that this could be the final outing for Holmes. However at Comic Con co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss they confirmed that they never said Season 4 would be the end, and that they didn’t mean to imply it.
With just a few short months to wait, I’m excited. How about you?
