Although there was no new expansion announced for Diablo 3, we did however get plenty of news about new content coming to the game…
Starting off with the biggest news, for the 20th anniversary of the original Diablo, Blizzard will be recreating it inside of Diablo 3. This will release with the upcoming content update called The Darkening of Tristram and will send players “back into the depths of the Cathedral”. The Darkening of Tristram will offer players with the chance to run a 16 level deep dungeon and face off against the four main bosses from the original Diablo.
There will also be some little tweaks to make the update feel more like the first game by locking the character movement to eight directions and adding a screen filter to make it more pixelated. This will be to recreate the old-school Diablo experience as best they can within Diablo 3. The Darkening of Tristram will be added to the PTR next week and the content update will be free to owners of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls upon release.
In other Diablo 3 news players can look forward to playing through the game once more as a new class. The much requested Necromancer will be added to Reaper of Souls sometime next year. The Diablo 3 Necromancer is inspired by the Diablo 2 version and will take advantage of everything that Diablo 3 has to offer. To give us more of an idea of what the Necromancer will be like Blizzard released the following trailer.
The Necromancer will launch as a pack and will include an in-game pet, two additional character slots, two additional stash tabs on PC, a portrait frame, pennant, banner and a banner sigil. The skills that the Necromancer will have available will range greatly from attacks such as the Bone Spear, Siphon Blood and of course, Corpse Explosion. There will also be a full set of legendaries and set items created for the Necromancer as well.
There will be more details on the Necromancer for Diablo 3 closer to release.
