The Avengers are gearing up for a space war and we’re now getting an Inhumans TV show and movie? Okay then.
So, Imagine if the X-Men plot was set on The Moon, everyone wore zany costumes, and a had Game of Thrones-style daily drama; Boom, that’s the Inhumans based in the kingdom Attilan.
How do they get their powers? Through Terrigenesis, where they are exposed to a super power-giving mist. How are they related to the rest of the Marvel Universe? Well they first appeared in 1965 in Fantastic Four #45.
Lead by the mute king Black Bolt, who can’t speak because of his super strong voice, his wife Medusa who has super hair and their dog who can teleport everywhere who is quite fond of The Thing.
To keep up the Fantastic Four thing, Crystal, sister of Medusa was married to the Human Torch and she married the mutant bad boy, Quicksilver. Right now in the comics, the Inhumans are clashing with the X-Men as mutants become an endangered species.
So after the Inhumans movie was announced things got a bit fuzzy and no one knew what was really going on as bits and bobs being announced and then getting changed. That was until Marvel announced that the Moon Mutants will get an ABC TV series (ABC produced Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter) and the first two series will be first aired in cinemas.
“This unprecedented alliance represents a bold, innovative approach to launching great TV content for a worldwide audience,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney|ABC Television Group. “It highlights Disney|ABC’s unrelenting commitment to finding new and creative ways to showcasing our very best programming and increasing global engagement and reach.”
So it’s like being a mutant AND going through Terrigenesis in the same day.
I know the Inhumans kind of turned up in Agents of SHIELD, but speaking to a few fans of the show, this may get quietly forgotten and retconned. Make sure you grab your popcorn and head to the cinema in late 2017 when the Inhumans opening episodes will hit theatres.
