With Facebook Live and Periscope being big hitters when it comes to personal live streams, it comes as no surprise that Facebook-owned Instagram is also be considering bringing live streaming to the image sharing app.
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom has confirmed to the Financial Times that Instagram will soon be bringing live videos to the app. In the interview Systrom said:
“Live is really exciting for us. I think it can enhance what we’re doing. If I’m trying to strengthen relationships with someone I love, them streaming video to me live would be an amazing way to be closer to them.”
Of course, live streaming on Instagram hasn’t just randomly appeared, it actually first surfaced last month as an experimental test in Russia where users noticed a new icon which had “Live” marked next to it.
Live streaming on Instagram will work in a similar fashion to Facebook Live, it has been discovered. Users will need to load up the camera as they would normally, but rather than taking a photo or recording a video, they tap “Go Insta!” and thus they’ll be broadcasting live across the world.
Unfortunately we have no idea when this feature will roll out as Systrom didn’t offer a date. So we may be waiting for some time.
