Fans of the free-to-play space ninja hack-slash-and-shoot game Warframe had better prepare their bandwidth because developer Digital Extremes have just released a big new content update titled The War Within on PC, bringing an all-new “cinematic” quest, a new game mode, more enemy types, more weapons and much more.
The biggest addition is the new eponymous quest, The War Within – the sequel to a previous quest titled The Second Dream – which sees players embarking on a “chilling” journey that takes them across a number of new missions and planets. Digital Extremes described the quest’s story as such:
“Amid all chaos, a mysterious enemy has emerged bent on the destruction of all Tenno. What secrets does the Grineer Empire keep? Underpowered, unprepared and forced out of their comfort, players must find it in themselves to improvise, not just to save themselves but the fate of all Tenno. The Grineer Queens’ Fortress awaits, where both Warframe and Operator will be pushed past their limits as they slowly unravel mysteries about the Tenno’s past and their true capabilities.”
The update also includes three new weapons, a new heavy Grineer enemy type (along with their spooky “Jester-like” cohorts), a new “Assault” game mode that sees players using both stealth and guns-blazing action to breach an enemy stronghold and a breadth of extra customization options.
Warframe is available to play for free on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The War Within update is live now on PC, with the update coming to PS4 and Xbox One within the coming weeks.
