I’m still not happy about the ending of How I Met Your Mother. No spoilers here, but take it from me, it was heartbreaking and slightly upsetting, and felt slightly like a cop-out. Anyway, personal feelings aside, there’s word that a spin-off show is in the works which is set to focus on the mother’s story aptly named, How I Met Your Father…
Wait! Haven’t they already tried to spin-off HIMYM? Yeah, with How I Met Your Dad, though the pilot was pretty bad and wasn’t picked up for a full season. That being said, it looks like 20th Television are set to take another shot, though this time with a slightly different name.
The original series spanned for nine whole seasons and told a pretty elaborate story about how Ted met the mother of his two kids. It became less about how he found their mother and more about the various antics the entire cast got up to during this time.
This new spin-off is set to focus on the mother’s side of the story, who took around 8 seasons to actually become identified in the main show, so it’ll be interesting to see what she apparently got up to during this time. This show will also have This Is Us writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger producing the project along side the creators of the original series Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
Apparently, according to The Hollywood Reporter, due to Bays and Tomas’ contract with Sony Television, they’ll mostly be hands-off leaving Aptaker and Berger to it.
Here’s hoping that, if this series manages to take off, it has a much better conclusion than the main series, that I’m still bitter about, clearly.
