Niantic teased trainers the world over with hints at a massive news announcement coming today (Dec 12). Fans eagerly awaited the new information with bated breath. Would it be the launch of Generation 2 Pokémon? Perhaps the reveal of the Legendary Bird trio? Mew or Mewtwo being sighted near city landmarks perhaps?
Well they’ve finally delivered and we can safely say it’s interesting:
Dropping this little reveal trailer to YouTube, Niantic are happy to announce Pichu, Togepi and more will be joining the game!
The Official Pokméon Press Site had this information to share:
“Trainers around the world will have the opportunity to add Togepi, Pichu and select Pokémon originally discovered in the Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games to their Pokémon GO Pokédex. Trainers have the chance to find these Pokémon by visiting and spinning PokéStops to acquire Eggs. These Eggs might hatch a Togepi, Pichu or select other Pokémon. Additionally, from December 12, 2016, 6:00 p.m. GMT to December 29, 2016, 7:00 p.m. GMT, Trainers can encounter special-edition Pikachu all over the world. These Pikachu will be wearing a festive hat to celebrate the holiday season, and they will appear in large quantities during this period.”
So, dust of those walking boots, pick up your running shoes or hop back on that bike and get hatching folks! The full list of which pokemon are becoming available is still yet to be disclosed. However as trainers take to the streets to catch their own festive Pikachu and begin hatching their cute little critters, I’m sure it won’t be long until the full list is discovered! Trainers are being encouraged to use the #PokemonGO tag on twitter to help spread new discoveries and news.
We can assume that the Pokémon being added are probably the child form Pokémon from Gen. 2, this list would include Pichu, Togepi, Cleffa, Elekid, Magby, Smoochum, Igglybuff and Tyrogue. Whether or not all of these will be available, or the additions will be limited to them, remains to be seen.
J.C. Smith, senior director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International, had this to say:
“The opportunity to hatch select Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region is just the beginning of how more Pokémon will be added to the game for Trainers to continue their Pokémon GO adventures.”
Ever the teases. Get out there trainers and find out what he’s talking about! After all….
Gotta catch ’em all!
