Troll and I: Spiral House Goes it Alone

While the developer Spiral House aren’t exactly a household name, they’ve had their hand in some classics under the Sony banner; Little Big Planet, Wipeout and Motorstorm to name a few. While traditionally working as a gun-for-hire for Sony, the studio is now focusing on their own IP, the first of which is the upcoming Troll and I for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Troll and I is set in a post-WWII Scandinavia, and follows a teenage boy named Otto, forced out of his home by a gang of hunters looking for the mysterious Troll. With a bounty on his head and his back against the wall, Otto befriends Troll and together they have to fight to survive. Looks like it’s not just hunters that the duo have to deal with, as there seems to be something a lot more dangerous that has been awoken.

The newest trailer shows the asynchronous play style that that typifies this kind of adventure (think Papo & Yo or even the Last Guardian). Otto’s attacks are quick and precise, where Troll’s own brutish manoeuvres demolish anything in it’s way. I quite like the art style on display here, the character models remind me a little of Beyond Good & Evil, and Troll looks like something straight out of Black & White. From the trailer it also seems like there will be plenty of environmental puzzles to solve using each characters own strengths, like holding up what seems to be the wing of an aeroplane as seen in the screenshot below:
