Rovio Launches new Studio, Working on Non-Angry Bird IP

Rovio, the company behind the once popular Angry Birds franchise, has unveiled a brand new studio based in London that’ll be dedicated to developing massively multiplayer online games.

In addition to the new studio the company announced that this new UK-based development arm will be working on a new IP. Unfortunately no other details have been released about this property other than that it won’t be a part of the Angry Birds universe.

Mark Sorrell, former VP of Product, has been hired to head the new London studio. The studio is also set to build a team of over 20 members within the next two years. This will be the fifth studio by the company, though the first of its kind in the UK.

“We believe that the best game experiences are those that you share with other people,” said Sorrell. “So we’re starting a studio to do exactly this. We look forward to bringing a diverse team together to deliver unique MMOs that are creative, inclusive and delightful.”

While the Angry Birds franchise is still going strong, you could say that it’s become a little over-saturated in the past few years, so it’ll be interesting to see what else the company can create that doesn’t involve catapults, pigs, and birds.

“Those looking for a chance to grow and flourish in a Nordic working environment in Central London can follow www.rovio.com/careers for the latest open positions,” the company stated in a press release.
