Atlas Reactor Begins Season 2, Adds New Content, Becomes Free-to-Play

Atlas Reactor, Trion Worlds’ simultaneous turn-based arena game that’s been compared to the likes of XCOM mixed with Chess, launches its second season today after a pretty successful debut season. This new season will bring a ton of new content over the next 10 week period. Oh, and the game is now completely free to play.

Initially set to launch as a free-to-play game, Trion Worlds decided to switch business model and market Atlas Reactor as a premium game with a free-tier ahead of its Early Access launch. Now, it looks like they’ve gone back to their original model and will make Atlas Reactor fully free-to-play for everyone. Beginning today anyone can dive into Atlas Reactor for free and collect Freelancers, Mod Tokens, Master Skins, and more using a new in-game currency called Flux.

Players will also be able to purchase new Freelancers with cash or alternatively upgrade to a premium edition of the game to unlock all Freelancers forever. Those who have already purchased a premium edition of the game will receive a “special thank-you package” containing Loot Matrices, in-game currency, an exclusive emblem, title and banner, and much more.

As for Season 2, well Trion Worlds has plenty in store for players. Kicking the season off, a brand new Freelancer has been added to the game, Brynn the Skywarden, who has the ability to create cover wherever she is and give enemies a bit of a surprise with her adjustable lance.

A brand new introduction experience is also being added that’ll have new players getting to grips with the control system and the way each game’s three-turn-stages play out.

New modes will also be coming during Season 2 during each of the five chapters which make up the Season. The first mode to be added is the All-Random Mode which launches today. New Loot will also be incoming that includes many Skins, emojis, overcons, ranked rewards, and more.

Speaking of Ranked, a new Rank System will be incoming as well as a few Freelancer adjustments. Here’s some more info on the Ranked System:

“In a new and improved Ranked System, open to ALL players, players will now progress through Ranks with a more predictable result of gains and losses after each match. Players will no longer be able to drop Ranks but can drop tiers, and players who achieve Master Rank will enter a new leaderboard style system.”

There’s also plenty more to come over the next ten weeks, so stay tuned.
