Shovel Knight is Coming to Nintendo Switch

If you thought there wasn’t enough Shovel Knight goodness to go around, then you’re wrong, as Yacht Club Games has just announced that the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch with a brand new name, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.

Yacht Club Games announced today that Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will be launching this Spring along side a new version of the base game for Nintendo Switch titled, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. In addition, Yacht Club also announced that the original Shovel Knight game will now be titled Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope. Blimey.

While Treasure Trove does offer the base game, it’s more of a complete package, a sort of Season Pass of Shovel Knight goodness as players not only get the base game, but also the other campaigns too.

When Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove launches so will a number of other changes to the Shovel Knight series as a whole. In addition to the base game being repackaged as Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope, so will all of the campaigns which have launched ever since. However, these campaigns will become completely separate standalone content.

“Why is this happening?” Yacht Club explained, “Well, we hope providing less expensive standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players! Also, players can more easily grab an adventure (or Battle Mode) on another platform!

“All owners of Shovel Knight on all platforms will automatically own Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove instead and will continue to get each of the planned free campaigns and features via updates. It will work exactly like how Shovel Knight was updated to include its first campaign addition, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows. Don’t worry!”

With that news, Yacht Club Games also announced that it’d be raising the price of Shovel Knight in the Spring. The good news is that you have until then to purchase Shovel Knight as it is now, and automatically get Treasure Trove content before it launches.

If that wasn’t enough, the developer also announced a new two-player co-op mode available across all platforms (but Nintendo 3DS and PS Vita) for existing Shovel Knight owners. A new Body Swap mode will also be incoming which adds new designs for body-swapped versions of the main characters.
