final fantasy vii remake

Seeing as we’re well into the 20th Anniversay month of Final Fantasy VII all eyes are on Square Enix to reveal more details about the upcoming remake of the classic RPG. Fortunately, the game’s director has addressed the current development status, and there’s still a long way to go.

According to director Tetsuya Nomura, in a recent interview with Famitsu, development on both the Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3, two of the company’s most anticipated games, is on going but the two “still have a way to go” before they’re released.

Speaking about Kingdom Hearts 3, he said:

“While I can’t make a sweeping statement because the development process is different from what we’ve done so far, there are still worlds untouched. Production is progressing on unannounced worlds, in a state that we cannot show them off. In terms of the state of development, there is still some way to go.”

As for Final Fantasy VII Remake:

“We’re steadily progressing on production. While we are making them, I apologize that the wait will be be a bit longer for Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy VII Remake. I am very sorry, but to that degree I will make a game that will meet your expectations.”

Of course both of these titles have found themselves on some of this year’s most anticipated titles, but there is indeed a chance neither could launch this year. Fortunately, it looks like we’ll be seeing more of both titles as the year progresses, however.

“Last year, I didn’t put out much information on either title, but this year I want to show our progress at an event somewhere. The release of the titles themselves have still have a way to go. But there are many titles releasing this year, if you can wait for any ‘surprises.’”

So there you have it, while we may not see the games this year, we’ll see something of the two. In terms of Kingdom Hearts, players have plenty to look forward to this year with the launch of Kingdom Hearts 2.8 and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix.
