Following this weekend’s NeoGAF thread which included the box art for what’s being considered the upcoming sequel to 2014’s Middle Earth: Shadow of Morder, Middle Earth: Shadow of War, Warner Bros has officially announced the game.
Middle Earth: Shadow of War will see the return of the acclaimed Nemesis system, and this time around players will be tasked with forging a new Ring of Power, as well as conquering fortresses and dominating the lands of Mordor.
“Experience how the award winning Nemesis System creates unique personal stories with every enemy and follower, and confront the full power of the Dark Lord Sauron and his Ringwraiths in this epic new story of Middle-earth,” reads the press release.
Although the press release didn’t actually detail this, the retailer listing which has now been taken down also revealed the Middle Earth: Shadow of War Gold Edition which will give access to four expansions: Slaughter Tribe Nemesis Expansion, Outlaw Tribe Nemesis Expansion, The Blade of Galadriel Story Expansion and The Desolation of Mordor Story Expansion.
What could be considered the most interesting part of this press release is that the game will be available on Xbox One, Windows 10 PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Pro, and Project Scorpio making Shadow of War the first game to confirmed for Microsoft’s upcoming console. The release date is currently set “from August 22”.
Previously the post speculated that Project Scorpio could launch this summer, this is indeed incorrect as Microsoft has stated that it’ll be launching this holiday. The article has been updated to reflect that.
