The ever-tardy Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 has been delayed for another three weeks and will now launch on Tuesday, April 25. At this rate the war will be over by the time you get to drill your first high-velocity bullet through the squishy face of an unsuspecting mark who’s just sat down to eat his dinner over 1500m away.
The single-player tactical shooter was originally scheduled for release in 2016, but has been put back on several occasions as developer CI Games has needed to do further work on optimising and polishing what they describe as their “biggest project” to date. This time around the delay is in response to player feedback received during February’s open beta test. Big wig Marek Tyminski explains:
“We’ve worked tirelessly creating a whole new Sniper Ghost Warrior experience set in an ambitiously crafted open world new to the series. While it’s an unfortunate decision to delay the game one last time, we believe these final changes will result in a better experience for players worldwide on day one. Thank you for your patience – we know the wait will be worth it.”
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 sees the series moving from a linear structure to a more ambitious open-ended sandbox format, with strong shades of Far Cry 2. Set in the present, you’ll play an American sniper dropped into a civil-war torn Georgia (that’s the Eastern European country not the US state!). You’ll be able to complete missions using any combination of stealth, sabotage and subterfuge, and good old-fashioned shooting you choose. Between missions, you can head over to unlockable safe houses to take on side-quests as well as craft, customise and upgrade weapons and equipment.
There’ll also be a stronger emphasis on realism over its predecessors. The game will feature dynamic weather and day/night cycles that’ll have a bearing on how you approach objectives. And there will be less assistance with long-range shooting, meaning you will have to compensate for wind and distance, etc, all on your lonesome.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
