Yesterday evening we heard the sad news that Discovery-backed Group Nine Media has shut down SourceFed, SourceFed NERD, and People Be Like, in a fairly dramatic shift.
It looks as if Group Nine Media are having a major refocus as they’ve shut down the entire SourceFed network and plan to fold Seeker Daily into their NowThis News network. News out of SourceFed HQ is that these layoffs were announced last week and gave its staff little notice.
To commemorate the news, SorceFed uploaded a video yesterday evening bringing in a handful of its former hosts including Elliott Morgan and Trisha Hershberger for what could be the final Table Talk video SourceFed ever do, which is a real shame. Another video which had all four of the shows current hosts was also uploaded revealing details on the shows final week.
As a huge fans of SourceFed we’re absolutely gutted to hear the news. Though I’ve drifted in and out of their videos after several host changes (I mean, who likes change), I’ve always managed to drift back to their off-beat news and other projects, specifically their hilarious “Co-workers do” series…
In this final week, SourceFed have revealed plans to go out with a bang and plan to record a final podcast episode as well as hold a live-stream to see the channel off, which will go live on Friday, March 24th at 5 PM EDT.
SourceFed first began life as an idea by Philip DeFranco. The channel launched in 2011 and began being active later in the year when DeFranco managed to secure funding from YouTube for “original or premium content channels”. In 2013, DeFranco sold SourceFed and along with other channels under the DeFranco Creative portfolio to Discovery and has since separated himself from the channel.
Since the news however, DeFranco has been under fire across social media by fans of SourceFed holding him responsible for the news. This however isn’t the case as DeFranco has said numerous times in the past that he no longer has a hand in SourceFed.
To @BonJurton and other idiots tweeting me gems like this,
I have not made decisions regarding the SF/SF Nerd channels in years. <3 pic.twitter.com/NuTx8v4lxP

This can’t be an easy time for the staff at SourceFed as well as those at DeFranco Inc., love and respect to you all!
