Pokemon GO Celebrates Water Festival Starting Today

Don’t know what a “water festival” is? Didn’t know one even existed? Yeah, neither have we. But today Niantic Inc. announced that for the next week trainers will be more likely to run into Water-type Pokémon.

The Water Festival starts at 1 PM PST (8 PM GMT) today (March 22) and once that kicks off you’ll be more likely to see Pokémon such as Squirtle, Totodile, and their evolutions while you’re out walking or sitting at a Starbucks. This will be especially helpful to those of us who don’t live near water or need to catch up on getting a sweet, sweet Blastoise.

Trainers will also have a greater chance of encountering Water-type Pokemon who come from the Johto region. These new Pokemon, 80 in total, were recently added this year so this is a great way to start building up that Pokedex.

If that isn’t fun enough for you, you’ll also have access to a new hat for your avatar when the festivities begin. The best part is that it’s a Magikarp Hat, be ready to equip the splash-master in hat form.
