Heroes of the Storm 2.0 Brings some Big Changes

Blizzard has announced that it’s making some big changes to their MOBA, Heroes of the Storm with a big 2.0 update.

The company announced a handful of the changes this week with more to some in due course, however of those announced already, this overhaul is going to be big. All of the changes coming to Heroes of the Storm will arrive with the next patch, which is currently being tested on the PTR.

So, what’s new? Well the progression system is being revised, players will no longer have to pay real cash to get cosmetics, and Loot Drops are incoming, with previously owned items being exchanged into Gold. New sprays, banners, emojis, announcers, and more will also come with the update.

The first big announcement for Heroes of the Storm 2.0 is the overhauled progression system.

“In our next patch, we’ve decided to make progression more straightforward by removing the Player Level cap and transforming it into the sum of all the Hero levels you’ve gained. We’ve also removed the Hero level cap so that your ability to continue progressing is near limitless.”

What this means is that now, the XP you earn from completing games will only affect players Hero progression, when players hit a new Hero level, their overall Player Level will also increase.

In addition, changes are being made to Hero Level XP requirements, making it easier for players to level up their characters. “We’ve slightly increased XP requirements during the first few Hero Levels, and reduced the amount of play needed to progress during later Hero levels by approximately 75-80%,” Blizzard revealed.

Finally Loot Chests will contain a random selection of nearly every item in the game, including Heroes. These chests will come in three varieties, Commin, Rare, or Epic. Each chest type also includes one item of that chests rarity level of higher, guaranteed. Even Regular Chests will have a chance to grab Rare, Epic, or Legendary items.

These chests will be rewarded as players climb the progression ladder.

Finally, in addition to all of these new changes, Blizzard has announced the addition of another new hero, Diablo 2’s Cassia, an Assassin Hero. Her highlight video can be seen below:
