In preparation for the Creators Update due on April 11, Microsoft has released a new update for the Xbox One that brings its Beam livestreaming, improves the home and guide, and much more.
Microsoft has announced that a big update lands on the Xbox One today that’ll let players get hands-on with the new Beam viewing app where players can watch their favourite live-streamers through Beam, Microsoft’s new game livestreaming platform.
The biggest changes however come in the form of the new and improved Home and Guide system which offers new multitasking scenarios as well as managing family gameplay with screen time limits.
The new enhanced guide takes some inspiration from the old Xbox 360 menu with the Xbox button bringing up an “enhanced Guide” as an overlay on the left side of your screen. Yep, you no longer drop out of the game to the dashboard when you press the Xbox button.
“The first page of the Guide is designed to get you to the content you care about most, including your Games and Apps, Home, Store, your recently launched applications, the latest Games and Deals with Gold for Xbox Live Gold members, and your top Pins,” said Microsoft in an announcement.
Other features coming in today’s update include, better multitasking, the addition of Copilot that allows two controllers to act as one, and Blu-ray player bitstream passthrough.
To round off the news, Microsoft also confirmed that the huge Windows 10 Creators update for PC will also be launching on April 11, “bringing new features for PC gamers such as Game Mode, and seamless Beam streaming directly from the Game bar to Windows 10.”
