The upcoming Metroidvania game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been cancelled on Wii U, with the developers moving their focus to the Nintendo Switch instead.
The news comes from an update by the game’s creator and industry veteran Koji Igarashi. In the update Iga explains that the decision is a reaction to the dwindling support for the hardware. He states “This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch.”
There is good news for those who backed the Wii U version of the game as it seems it will be possible to change to a hardware version of choice. There’s also an option to receive a full refund given some requirements are met.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will feature all of the classic gameplay traits of previous Koji Igarashi games such as Castlevania. The Kickstarter campaign currently has 64,867 backers raising $5,545,991. The game is scheduled for release in 2018 and will come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Vita and now Nintendo Switch.
