It’s that time of year again. The excitement grows, the rumors tremble and all the fan theorists are crowned as gods or frauds of the realm. HBO put together a rather creative live event which asked fans to do the only other thing that’s as boring as watching grass grow. Yep.. melting ice.
At the end of the video the air date was revealed as July 17, 3 months later than last years April premier. Which isn’t the only change in routine as this season will contain 7 episodes instead of the 10 that the others have. This is because show runners David Benioff and D. B Weiss had mentioned that the story has about 15 episodes remaining before the finale is reached so these last two seasons will be taking a different approach.
I’m in high anticipation for this season not only because I’m a huge fan but because of how far we are out of book territory. Tome readers and show watchers are just as in the dark as each other, which creates an interesting landscape. While I do hold the opinion that the quality of the writing and some of the story decisions has been hit or miss since season 4, I’m still curious to see where the show takes the story in a world where The Winds of Winter is still not on book shelves.
