Blizzard have announced that they are raising the price of packs in Hearthstone and fans are pissed.
A statement was issued that read: “We regularly look at our pricing around the world, and from time to time we make changes such as these to align with local and regional market conditions. The price of the Un’Goro pre-launch bundle offer will not be affected by this change and will remain the same until launch.”
That may be so, but it seems like we in the UK are getting hit much harder than our European compadres, with the 2 pack bundle costing a whopping 50% more after the change, as opposed to an 11% rise for the rest of players.
There were various corners of the Hearthstone community who were already in a huff about Blizzard’s new 3-expansions-a-year strategy, complaining that it would just mean more overall cost for the die-hard fan. Even if the game is free to play, the key to competitive play is to stay ahead of the curve and new decks and strategies are always being developed, and I believe this is something that may stifle that. With easy-to-craft card decks potentially becoming the new meta.
After the store-wide price rise issued from Apple on their App Store earlier this year, it doesn’t seem to be a super great time to be a mobile gamer at the moment.
