It looks like Batgirl is getting her own movie directed by none other than Joss Whedon, known previously for two of The Avengers movies.
From Marvel to DC, Whedon is set to sign a deal with Warner Bros. to write, direct, and produce a standalone Batgirl movie, according to Variety. The movie will be part of the DC Extended Universe and will also star other characters from Gotham City.
According to the report, this new project originated in the past month, so any actual substantial news surrounding the movie is likely to take some waiting.
Batgirl has starred in a handful of Batman movies in the past but has yet to have her own flick, which is odd considering she’s one of the most popular DC characters.
With Batgirl receiving a more modern selfie-taking reboot back in 2015, it’ll be interesting to see if Whedon takes a similar approach with her, or whether he’ll opt for the classic Batgirl we’ve known for years.
Aside from The Avengers, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, Whedon also created the Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
