Earlier this week Nintendo Japan released a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe trailer focusing on new exclusive content for the Nintendo Switch. The video features three new battle modes and eight battle courses, plus new drivers Bowser Jr., King Boo, Dry Bones, both Inkling Girl and Boy, and Gold Mario for those who can beat every track at 200cc.
Showcased in the overview is the brand new Battle Mode, criticised in the Wii U version. Nintendo has revamped this aspect for the Switch version, including a greater variety of options.
Instead of playing cut-down versions of the main tracks, Battle Mode will now feature 8 new courses, including tracks from previous games and one based on Splatoon. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will also introduce Renegade Roundup, Shine Thief, Bob-omb Blast and Coin Runners, joining fan’s favorite Balloon Battle.
The new trailer also reminds us about the 48 tracks and over 40 racers included in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In Nintendo Switch, players will be able to compete in local multiplayer with up to seven different people, as well as use just one Joy-Con to play. This version will also run at 1080p while docked.
Additionally, we can see Donkey Kong’s new sick animation. The gorilla can now dab. Seriously, check out 2:44 on the video above. He can pull off that move while racing, a nice touch for all the dabbers out there.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launches on April 28, alongside the Joy-Con wheel peripherals. The Wii U version was one of the most sold and praised titles of the console, considered by many as the best Mario Kart ever.
