AOL CEO Tim Armstrong revealed the new name of a combined merge of AOL and Yahoo following Verizon’s acquisition of Yahoo, and it makes no sense.
Over on Twitter, Armstrong tweeted out the company’s new logo along with the caption “Billion+ Consumers, 20+ Brands, Unstoppable Team #TakeTheOath. Summer 2017.” It’s almost a rhyme if you read it a certain way…

Interestingly, AOL has also chimed in on the announcement saying “In the summer of 2017, you can bet we will be launching one of the most disruptive brand companies in digital.”
However they’re probably hoping that the world forgets that both companies have been shrouded in controversy over the past couple of years, with the latest being Yahoo who recently disclosed a number of security breaches which went back as far as 2012.
With this new merger, Oath will contain several high-profile brands including the Huffington Post, Engadget, TechCrunch, MovieFone, and a host of other media sites, while Yahoo on the other hand has Tumblr, Flickr, video ad business BrightRoll, and too a host of media sites.
This puts Oath right up there in the big leagues with over a billion “consumers” worldwide. Though we all know nobody likes change, so we’ll see how “unstopable” Oath becomes when it arrives this summer.
