16 Bit Roguelike, Ruin of the Reckless Hits Steam April 26

Developer Faux-Operative Games is bringing their Kickstarter funded game, Ruin of the Reckless, to Steam and Itch.io on April 26.

Ruin of the Reckless is a 2D action roguelike with that true feeling of a 16-bit classic. The game features face-paced melee combat, speedy movement, and co-operative play. Players can pick between characters Stargrove of Stella to fight their way through a randomly generated tower. This challenging game mixes twin stick brawler gameplay with spells to help clear your screen of the onslaught of enemies.

Fortune favors the bold or “reckless” in this game as you run through harder and harder levels of the tower. As you level up you’re able to mix and match different “ability orbs” to help fight all the baddies you encounter.

From the minds of Charles Webb and Daniel Crockenberg, Ruin of the Reckless began development in 2014. They had the idea of a co-op roguelike that allows both players to be full blown characters instead of one being stuck as a sidekick. The team successfully raised over $17,000 on Kickstarter and has been rolling out successful beta builds leading to the full release later this month.

Faux-Operative has provided this breakdown for the story:

“Since the beginning of time, or maybe longer, this place has been here. It is a beacon of sorts, attracting the souls of those who both lived and died with recklessness in their hearts. Bound by some unknown force, these wayward spirits cannot leave.
And so they remain… With time their souls will rot. They will fade away and they will be forgotten. But even here there is hope… A legend whispered among the ghosts and specters. That any spirit to reach the tower’s peak will be granted one wish…”

Ruin of the Reckless is available on April 26 for $14.99.
