Yooka-Laylee Tips and Tricks

Listen up ladies! It’s been a long time since Ty went extinct, Spyro became a fighter, Mario spends more time racing than saving princesses, and Banjo got fat. And now Yooka-Laylee is here.

It’s been a good few years since our last good collectathon adventure, so here’s a few tips and tricks to get you back in the game!

  • Look up. No I don’t mean Google, we’re not animals, do this properly. Simply look up. The number of times hidden areas or missed items will reveal themselves with a simple vertical pan of the camera is astounding. Failing that however…
  • Find higher ground. This one might seem rather obvious as well, but gaining a good vantage point to observe the terrain will help you get a good feel for the level architecture and options to explore. Plus you never know what you might find up on those ledges.
  • Come back later. Another simple one but often you’ll need moves from other levels in order to progress or complete certain challenges in earlier stages. Don’t be afraid to move forward and come back later, just remember where you left off.

  • Sleep on it. We all get stuck, don’t worry, sleep on it. Come back with fresh eyes and tackle it again. Fresh eyes see more sights, you’ll probably notice something you missed the first time around.
  • Looks can be deceiving. Don’t always look for a trail of breadcrumbs or a halo of light. Sometimes the mundane scenery will be hiding something and it will blend right in with the rest of the stage. It’s a sneaky manoeuvre but it gets you thinking. Sure that rock might be JUST another rock, but what if it’s not?
  • Third time’s a charm. The rule of threes is a rule for a reason.
  • Take it slow. Don’t rush, enjoy it the thrill of the hunt. There’s nothing more satisfying than finally nailing that tricky jump or challenge, finally getting a hold of that last item that’s evaded you for so long.

  • Keep it simple. Don’t over think things. More often than not these games are designed for players of all ages, meaning the solutions won’t be as convoluted as you think. Simplify things and think in straight lines. When that fails, escalate matters and get more removed and bass aackwards with each successive attempt.
  • Ask for help. Don’t be afraid to ask a second opinion from an outsider. Sure they’re mre likely to tell you something you already know but you can never be sure and that outside perspective might just yield the solution you require.

And finally, the golden rule!

If it’s stupid but works, it ain’t stupid. Sure there will be an intended way to do things but if your method of going around the houses works then who cares? It’s just as effective to go your own way sometimes, embrace it. Video games are all about stories and sometimes doing the illogical leads to some pretty great tales of your own.

That’s it. You’re ready to get back out there, don the hat and pick up the whip and go uncover those lost treasures, save yourself some princesses and most importantly find those pesky pagies and quills!

Happy hunting folks!
