PlayStation 4 Sales Surpass 60 Million

Sony has hit another huge milestone this year with the PlayStation 4. According to the company, it has now shipped over 60 million consoles as of the end of March 2017.

This means that Sony managed to ship an impressive 20 million units in its last financial year. Interestingly, they’ve lowered their expectations for the 2017 fiscal year expecting only 18 million units to ship. These numbers however put the PlayStation 4 in line with the PlayStation 2 in terms of sales.

Sony’s Games and Network Services division, which include all things PlayStation, reported profits of 136 billion yen, which is the equivalent of around £994 million, its highest profits since 1998. Sony expects its games business to see profits up by 25 percent in 2017.

What strikes me as a little odd however is how Sony failed to give any specifics on the performance of the PS4 Pro, as well as the PSVR. Sony announced that the PSVR had hit sales of 915,000 in February. Considering how Sony have been happy to flaunt the success of the PS4 at any given opportunity, this tells me that numbers may not be as impressive for these two products.

Sony Corp. overall, earned $67.8 billion in revenue the last fiscal year which is down 6% year-on-year, and $654 million net profit, which is actually down 50% year-on-year.
