Video Games

Once again we have quite a few busy weeks of releases headed our way.

Dragon Quest Heroes II (PS4)

Release Date: April 25

This hack and slash game, developed by Omega Force and published by Square Enix, takes place in the peaceful land of Seven Kingdoms. As if enchanted by some ancient prophecy these kingdoms begin to wage war on one another. Heroes from different kingdoms must come together to restore the peace to their war torn continent.

This game takes the hack and slash style of Dynasty Warriors and combines it with the characters, monsters, lore and universe of the Dragon Quest series. While this game aims to lean more on the RPG elements of previous games from Omega Force, players can still expect mobs and waves of enemies to plow through. Players can, however, explore the world, visit towns, and initiate ‘Battle Stages’ (dungeons) like in other Dragon Quest titles. Any fan of the series will surely want to check this installation out, and theres not much time left to wait!

Outlast 2 (PS4 and Xbox One)

Release Date: April 25

Fans of the first game know whats coming with this, much anticipated sequel. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, to put it bluntly, players will have the ever living shit scared out of them. On the surface, Outlast 2 is about one mans quest to find his beloved wife after their helicopter crashes in the Arizona desert. Doesn’t sound too bad right? Well, this game was inches away from being band in Australia for the horrific scenes it apparently has. The provocative symbolism of monsters in a Catholic grade school, the murder of a pregnant woman, a girl hanging from the rafters in a hallway, and burning inverted Christian cross’ evoke a sense of unsettling fear, while also perking the interest of curious minds. I know right? How could a game like this possibly be banned?

So, yes, the game is about one man just trying to find his wife, but the game is also about solving the mysteries behind the hellish, backwoods farm your character has found himself in. Above all else though, Outlast has always been about survival. Will you survive? Will you make it through this game with your sanity intact? Find out next week when Outlast 2 drops world wide April 25!

Puyo Puyo Tetris (Switch and PS4)

Release Date: April 25

Two classic games combine for a puzzler collection like no other. You can play Tetris or you can play Puyo Puyo; you can verse a player playing Puyo Puyo while you play Tetris; hell you can play both games at once by switching between them at set intervals. Thats not all the game has to offer though. Modes that cross over both games simultaneously; like where Tetris blocks and puyos drop at the same time on the same screen and Tetris blocks can squish the puyos!

Oh, and don’t worry, this game comes with a cute little story mode as well. Thats right, TETRIS just got a story mode. How you ask? Well each colored block now has an anime counterpart. In short the Puyo Puyo cast, waiting to see another horde of endlessly multiplying Puyos, begin seeing blocks falling from the sky. To investigate this mystery, they board a space ship in orbit and come to find the ship’s crew is a band of anthropomorphic Tetris blocks under the command of T. Together, this motley crew embark on an adventure to find out just whats going on…

I can’t make this up. This is real, but apparently its pretty fun too, so, check it out?

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Release Date: April 25

This upcoming open world, first person tactical shooter is the third installation in the Sniper: Ghost Warrior series, and the first to feature a AAA production effort. The game takes place in modern-day with a multitude of conflicts happening between three hostile factions. A proxy war and civil war in Georgia also begin. The player assumes the role of American Marine Captain Jonathan “Jon” North as he travels to Georgia to eliminate its intruder, who he apparently shares a dark past with, in order to prevent another Cold War.

This game distinguishes itself from it’s predecessors by featuring an open world, which can be freely explored by the players. Different activities and side missions (known as “war crimes”) can be completed at the player’s leisure when they’re not completing main quests. This sequel aims to be for veterans of the series and newcomers alike, while also being tactical enough for the more hardcore players. The game is based off three pillars: target, eliminate, and survive. Players can approach each situation in a multitude of ways. From a more covert/melee combat style, to a run and gun form, to a more gadget and weapons based approach; Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 looks to have a scratch for any FPS fan’s itch.
