Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds To get Xbox One & PS4 Release

The Battle Royale genre has had quite a sharp uptake recently; with the ArmA mod DayZ blazing the trail for this new style of multiplayer game. The premise is that a multitude of players are dropped on to a landmass with nothing but the clothes on their back and a sneaking sense of suspicion. They must then scavenge what they can (guns, armour, even vehicles) in order to wipe everyone else out and essentially be the last person standing.

Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds takes this formula and makes it user friendly in all the ways that DayZ was not, creating more of a user-friendly experience that is great to play and indeed watch. There were points in the games development cycle (it’s still in early access on Steam) that there were more people actually watching the game being played, than actually playing it. Watching the someone being dropped in with nothing and emerge victorious is compelling viewing.

It’s no surprise then that in a recent interview with Business Insider┬áthe games developers revealed that there are console versions in the works, although with no hint of a release window.

“We have a team working already on looking to port it to at least the Xbox [One],” the game’s creative director, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene tells Business Insider. “We’re looking at both consoles of course, but we have no time frame for both.”

The only real drawback for most casual gamers is that Battlegrounds is only available for PC, so the news that both an Xbox One and a PS4 version will be realised at some point should be a massive positive.

Anyway, I’m going to go watch someone tilt really hard about being battered with a frying pan dodging sniper fire next to a car on fire. Yep.
