Let’s Break Down The Defenders Trailer

It’s been a long time coming and five seasons of other shows to make this happen, but it’s finally here, well, the trailer is at least. Yep, it’s The Defenders!

So now that the Defenders trailer is finally here, lets dive a little deeper and see if there are any little hints as to what we can expect from our four street-level heroes.

Jumping right in, the trailer opens up with Jessica Jones handcuffed to an interrogation table.

We hear Simone Missick’s character, Misty Knight, questioning her about messing with her crime scene and supposedly steal from said scene.

THEN! In walks the one and only Matthew Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, and tells her to not say another word, he is her new attorney.

The Netflix banner flies and we are next treated to Luke Cage on a bus riding through Harlem and then talking with Rosario Dawson’s character, Claire Temple, in bed, bow chika wow wow. Anyway… shes questioning how being Harlem’s hero allows him to live an “actual life”, to which he retorts, “I just wanna help people.”

What a guy.

We are then shown our first glimpse of the Immortal Ironfist, as Claire tells Luke she has someone she wants him to meet. Ironfist chases down some criminal and is about to get a hard right hook in as Luke Cage catches his hand.

The exchange “Who are you’s”, then Ironfist tries to land one in Luke’s chest.

I mean, come on man… Hes Luke friggin Cage! Luke instead, lays him out, surprise surprise, and Ironfist asks the question “why can’t you be hurt?”. Luke responds with something like “Bro, why does your hand do that glowy thing??” As Ironfist again tries to catch him off guard…

Still not going to work man, but kudos for trying.

Claire, tells the bickering couple they’re on the same side and we then hear a familiar voice.

You four; the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, the smart-ass detective, the righteous ex-con, and the kid with the glowing fist… The war for New York is here.”

If you’ve watched Dare Devil you know who this voice is… Stick!! (Played by Scott Glenn).

BUT, more importantly, we are shown a very important shot as his words fade…

That’s right, Elektra Notchios is back, but in what way? Who’s agenda will she be serving and to what end?

We are then shown some quick flashes of people flying back and it seems as though some serious shit is going down.

However, if you look closely, that’s just Jessica in the middle there and Stick is standing to her right. That’s Luke Cage to the left, getting tossed like a rag doll and it seems like Murdock is just chillin in the back there.

See? These kids are just playing with their powers.

BUT THEN, we are treated to who seems to be this season’s big bad, Sigourney Weaver’s Alexandra.

Now, what I’m about to say is purely speculation, but I think it could hold up, given what we have seen in the shows so far. So please, if you will, allow me to digress for a moment and try to make sense of just who this Alexandra person is.

After doing some research, there aren’t many “Alexandras” within the Marvel Universe. However, something movie and tv adaptions are notorious for is gender swapping! So what? Well, take the name “AlexandRA” and change it to, I don’t know, maybe “AlexandER”? Instantly, we get a very possibly connection, we might be seeing in the Defenders.

Alexander Bont. Who is he? I’m glad you asked. Alexander Bont was the FIRST kingpin of Hell’s Kitchen and has had some serious beef with Daredevil in the comics. Ironically enough, his rise in power came after he killed the masked hero known as “The Defender”, after which time he then maintained the influence in Hell’s Kitchen for decades to come.

He was also one of the first villains Daredevil ever put behind bars. Starting to see the connection here?? What if Marvel and Netflix took this character and gave him the ol’ gender swap? It is quite possible Sigourney’s Alexandra and Alexander Bont could be one in the same.  OR shes just a ‘Snake Root’; one of the Hand’s elite leaders. We will just have to wait and see.

We then see some sweet action scenes and some major destruction going on. Alexander, sorry, Alexandra goes on to say “The more connections you have, the easier it will be to break you.” Oooooo chilling.

The trailer ends as we see the Defenders team up to fight some baddies in a very Avengers-like style.

LOOK who is in the background!

Elektra is present yet again. It seems like she will be joining Murdock’s side for this fight but will she remain by his side or once again turn against him?

Thats pretty much it.

Regardless, this new step in the Netflix Marvel TV-verse looks to be a promising one. The Defenders hits Netflix August 18, all episodes, so go binge your heart out n3rds!
