Video Games

Darksiders Warmastered Edition (Wii U)

Release Date: May 23

With all the Darksiders news buzzing around recently it’s not surprising we are seeing yet another remaster of the original Darksiders release. For those that have yet to play the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 versions… well now’s your chance, because guess what? It’s coming to Wii U.

Darksiders follows War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as he is thrown into a precarious situation and must now find evidence to clear his name. Basically there’s a seal that is broken, and only then can the Horsemen be allowed to ride once more. However, the seal is NOT broken and yet War still falls to earth in the midst of a war between angels and demons.

Why was War summoned? Who is trying to frame him? Fans of hack n’ slash, Legend of Zelda type games will love this classic remaster that started it all.

Disgaea 5 Complete (Nintendo Switch)

Release Date: May 23

This port of the 2015 original comes complete (see what I did there?) with the original game as well as all of its DLC. This fifth instalment follows a group lead by Killia in his quest to rebel against the nefarious Overlord Void Dark, who only wants to enslave the multitude of Netherworlds using his army, The Lost. Basically everyone in your party wants this dude dead for one reason or another. For those that enjoy over the top strategy-roleplaying games, this ones for you.

Impact Winter (PC)

Release Date: May 23

The term “Impact Winter” is a hypothetical period of prolonged cold weather due to the impact of a large meteor hitting the earth’s surface. If such an incident were to occur, debris and other material would be ejected into the atmosphere, blocking radiation from the sun and causing basically another Ice Age.

Thats pretty much the premise for this game. You control a group of survivors after such an incident occurs. You must have the group band together, scavenge for resources, stay warm and just survive for 30 days while you wait to be rescued.

Mirage: Arcane Warfare (PC)

Release Date: May 23

Mirage: Arcane Warfare

This skill-based, online multiplayer, arcane FPS lets you tear your enemies apart with magic and swords. Assassins, hulking Brutes, and Mages are just a few of the 6 classes you can choose from to find that perfect play-style for you. Supposedly it has an unparalleled focus on combat and letting you feel in control your powers. Mirage demands creativity when it comes to combat, and promises to be a true challenge for players of the series.

Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada (PS4, PC)

Release Date: May 23

This spin off of Samurai Warriors 4, which is really a spin-off of Dynasty Warriors… So its a spin-off of a spin-off? Anyway, it’s another hack n’ slash from Koi Tecmo. This game, like it’s predecessors, focuses on the Sengoku period. A hard time full of war, turmoil, and constant fighting for power.

While most of the other games, take the time to show the perspective of different factions or clans, this newest instalment revolves around the Sanada clan. Huh, so that’s where they go the name from. The game spans roughly 48 years and lets you play as the leader Masayuki and his sons, Nobuyuki and Yukimura, as various incarnations of themselves throughout that timeline.

Steel Division: Normandy 44 (PC)

Release Date: May 23

A real time strategy game that takes places in Northern France during the second world war. The game will feature 15 playable maps, which in reality will be more considering each map can be scaled depending on the number of players involved.

Countries from both the Allied and Axis powers will be playable and represented. Amphibious units and gameplay will also be included allowing things like bridges to be bypassed by specialist units.

Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception (PS4, Vita)

Release Date: May 23

This visual novel RPG is the sequel to Utawarerumono, but this one doesn’t feature adult content. The tactical role playing system involves moving a group of characters through a square based grid to complete some form of objective.

Seriously though, what is with all these tactical RPGs??

Friday the 13th (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Release Date: May 26

friday the 13th

This one is pretty self explanatory. Like a hybrid between Alien: Isolation and Evolve, you must out run and out think Jason.

Select your camper, find what you need to survive and get out of the camp. This game comes with a twist however because you can also play as Jason. Up to 7 players can band together to try and survive while the eighth player assumes the infamous role of Jason and begins to hunt the other players down.

Hitting you with a full on 80’s vibe and some absolutely brutal, over the top finishers, this game is sure to please any fan of survival horror.

Get Even (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Release Date: May 26

This game looks to shake up the way we play first person action games. Get Even nonchalantly takes away the barrier between single and multiplayer experiences while unraveling to linked stories. The game progresses based on the memories of its main heroes, and your choices dramatically effect how things play out.

The path you take your character on determines their personality. Exploration mixes with horror and thriller elements in this carefully crafted tale. The elements of single-player and multiplayer condense as the personalities of your characters are revealed.

When you go on a single-player mission, other players on your network can enter the quest as enemies, so you never know who is a CPU and who is an actual person. This, in theory, further adds to the players feelings of tension and feeling threatened.

Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 (PS4, XboxOne, PC, PS3)

Release Date: May 26

This seventeenth entry in the Guilty Gear series is the update title to Revelator. People that own the Revelator version will only be required to purchase the DLC update patch, while the PS4 will get a fancy physical disc version. Rev 2 will have the same content as Revelator, however it will include balance changes, new moves for the entire roster, new episode story scenes for Jam, Raven, Haehyun, and Dizzy, along with Baiken and Answer, and a new After Story which takes place shortly after the main story on the console and PC versions.

Rime (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Release Date: May 26

This stylized action adventure, puzzle game looks to join the ranks of games like Journey. Its gorgeous stylized mediterranean feel is warm and welcoming and its scale feels like that of a Legend of Zelda meets The Witness. It follows a young boy shipwrecked on mysterious island after a terrible storm. Players must decipher the challenges and secretes of this crumbling, expansive world.

Covered in rugged terrain, dilapidated ruins of a long forgotten civilisation, and full of wild creatures; the island offers a variety of tests. The story is mainly told through the environments you explore and the embracing musical score carry the player through a meaningful journey of self discovery.

Ultra Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers (Nintendo Switch)

Release Date: May 26

This updated version of the 1994 classic Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, features two different art styles, classic pixel art and high definition art.

It will also have revamped controls, new modes and gameplay mechanics, as well as new balanced settings.

Don’t Starve Mega Pack (PS4, Xbox One)

Release Date: May 30

This collection of the Don’t Starve games gives players a ton of content to get through. It includes Don’t Starve, Don’t Starve Together, Don’t Starve: Giant Edition, and Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked. Basically, they’re all survival, rogue like games that involve keeping your character, Wilson, alive as long as possible.

Wilson is a scientist that finds himself in a dark, surreal world and must use his surroundings to survive as long as possible, while also trying to stay mentally sane. Throughout the game you must avoid being killed or eaten by the supernatural enemies that inhabit the world around you. “Adventure” mode adds some depth to the lacking story and plot by pitting Wilson against the game’s antagonist, Maxwell.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew (Vive, PSVR, Rift)

Release Date: May 30

Ok… I’m not going to spend to much time on this one because there isn’t much to say. All you need to know is Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a virtual reality simulation game that puts players aboard the starship Aegis as they journey across the Star Trek Universe… Woo.

Release Date: May 25

Starring Dwayne, The Rock, Johnson and Zach Efron, this reboot of the beloved TV series revolves around a devoted lifeguard, Mitch Buchanan (The Rock), as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Zach Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.
