Fans of the latest entry into the Hitman series have some good news this weekend as Io-Interactive have announced that they’ve become an independent developer. What’s more, they’ve managed to secure the Hitman IP from Square Enix, which is pretty massive news.
In a post on the Io-Interactive website, Hakan dived a little into the history of the studio before revealing that they have now become an independent studio and will continue development on the Htman franchise.
“I am proud to announce today that IOI is now officially an independent studio. We have successfully concluded our negotiations with Square Enix and have agreed to a management buyout. Crucially, we will keep all of the rights to the Hitman IP,” they wrote, adding:
“This is a watershed moment for IOI. As of today, we have complete control over the direction for our studio and the Hitman IP – we’re about to forge our own future and it’s incredibly exciting. We are now open to opportunities with future collaborators and partners to help strengthen us as a studio and ensure that we can produce the best games possible for our community.”
So there you have it, while the history of the Hitman franchise may have been in turmoil for a little while, it’s come to a much happier ending than we would have hoped.
Here’s to the future of Hitman!
