Two worlds collided during the events of the previous Spider-Men arc where Miles Morales joined forces with Peter Parker of Earth-616 before taking up permanent residence there. The iconic story arc left us with one huge question though; Just who is the other Miles Morales?
The web (see what I did there?) has been alive with theories ever since as to who Miles Morales of Earth-616 really is and why we haven’t met him yet. Taking a trip into Spider-Gwen’s home reality we’re met with Matt Murdock and Frank Castle taking on slightly different roles to their more commonly known 616 versions, so is it possible that Miles of 616 is the same? Rather than a paragon of justice is he some sinister villian in the making? Has he tangled with Petey before? Or is he just some average Joe going about his day to day?
Knowing the Marvel universe he will pose some dramatic counterpoint to his otherworldly compatriot, most likely being a bad guy of some description and crossing paths with the heroic pair during the events of Spider-Men II.
Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli have been brought in to pen the dramatic adventure and conclusion to the story, finally answering the question for fans the world over. Michael Bendis had this to say:
“One of my favourite things about a shared universe, is that on top of what you’re writing for the characters, other things are happening to the characters, like now Miles is in the new universe, and now he’s a part of the Champions, and half of [Civil War II] was people fighting over his head, so things have changed in his life, and his relationship to the Marvel Universe is completely different than it was in the first series and that’s exciting.”
Bendis also mentioned that both Morales and Parker will be retaining their titles as Spiderman which I’m sure isn’t going to get confusing at all… it’s a good thing they both have vastly different suits I guess!
Getting a first look at a couple of pages we can see that the pair are sure to run into the usual amount of mischief and mayhem as they go about finding an answer to the mystery behind Miles Morales’ 616 counterpart. Featuring an art-style we’ve come to know and love along with the swanky Spider-Man Worldwide suit, this 5-part series is sure to impress!
Issue #1 will become available for purchase July 12.
