The first of two guest characters making their way to Rivals of Aether comes Ori and Sen from Ori and the Blind Forest! The beautifully animated guardian spirit takes to the field of battle against the denizens of Aether.
Gameplay wise, Ori is fast and scrappy. Dashing in and making quick, ferocious work of the opposition while Sein uses mystical powers to apply a ranged assault; locking enemies in place and allowing Ori the proper opportunity to capitalize and strike. This dual-partner mechanic is similar to Ice Climbers in Super Smash Bros. Melee, or perhaps more accurately, Rosalina and Luma from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. To use Ori and Sein effectively, you will need to be able to make efficient calculations and execute them with haste to overwhelm your opponent.
The timing is fantastic as well, as in Microsoft’s press conference the sequel to 2015’s wildly successful Ori and the Blind Forest was revealed: Ori and the Will of the Wisps. No release date was announced, so we can only assume that Ori is waiting to take off on his next adventure only when he has properly trained against the Rivals of the world.
Founder and Editor-man Aaron Richardson absolutely loved Rivals of Aether in his review, stating the game is “not only charming, but also viciously competitive but in a really friendly way.”
