As promised, Electronic Arts and Ghost Games have unveiled the full name and gameplay details for the next Need for Speed game which is titled: Need for Speed Payback.
Need for Speed Payback is set to land in stores on November 10 and will be set in the fictional city of Fortune Valley where players will be pulling off high-speed heists, taking part in high-stakes car battles, and high octane cop pursuits.
The game is set to feature a fully offline single player campaign that’ll tell the story of betrayal and revenge. According to the press release “it’s no longer just about being the first to cross the finish line or racing to prove to be the best, it’s about building the perfect ride, getting behind the wheel and playing out an action driving fantasy.”
The underworld of Fortune Valley, which presumably takes inspiration from Las Vegas if the previous teasers are anything to go by, is ruled by a nefarious cartel called The House who has hands in the casinos, criminals, and of course, the police force. Players will drive as three unique characters throughout the game that have been brought together by their quest for revenge on the cartel.
Much like last year’s instalment, each of these characters will offer a different play style with Tyler, the Racer; Mac, the Showman; and Jess, the Wheelman. The game is also set to feature the “deepest customisation” from the series, where players can tune and tweak their ride. Players can then take their cars onto the streets and even bet on their own performance to either double their winnings, or lose it all.
“Need for Speed returns this year to challenge what players expect from racing games,” said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer. “We’re still delivering everything our fans love about the franchise – the deepest customization, an impressive roster of cars, intense races and open world pursuits – but with Need for Speed Payback, we’re bringing together all those elements in an all new blockbuster driving experience. From the story, to the different characters you can drive as, to the varied missions, to the edge-of-your-seat moments, this is our vision for what action driving entertainment means today.”
Electronic Arts has also detailed that for players who pre-order the game, they’ll receive the Need for Speed Paypack Premium Car Pack which will offer five customised and tuned vehicles:
- Nissan 350Z 2008
- Chevrolet Camaro SS 1967
- Dodge Charger R/T 1969
- Ford F-150 Raptor 2016
- Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 2016
Finally, a Deluxe Edition of Need for Speed Payback has also been unveiled which gives players three days early access to the full game as well as even more customisation items, Rep bonuses, in-game discounts, everything the Platinum Car Pack offers, and much more.
Need for Speed Payback Deluxe Edition owners will get their three-day early access starting Tuesday, November 7. Need for Speed Payback will be available worldwide on November 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
