Following the news that Lucasfilm had dropped directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller citing creative differences, the company has now revealed that Ron Howard will be perching his butt in the directors seat.
Howard, the director behind such movies as The Da Vinci Code and Inferno, will be handling the Han Solo spin-off movie, Lucasfilm announced today. Once again, The Hollywood Reporter has a statement from president Kathleen Kennedy:
“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago,” Kennedy said. “With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie.”
With such a drastic change only four months into development, this has left many people wondering what direction Lucasfilm want to go with the spin-off as the difference between Howard and Lord & Miller is a stark one.
The movie is still apparently on track for its May 25, 2018 release, which is less than 11 months away now. There’s a good chance the movie’s release will be pushed back a few months.
