Hasbro and Nintendo have announced a brand new partnership to bring Gamer Edition Monopoly to tables this August.
While Hasbro is no stranger to the Nintendo franchise with Nintendo Monopoly, this new set is set to completely switch up the game. Not only will it be based specifically around Super Mario, players can expand the game by purchasing “power packs” which include new tokens for players to use.
Monopoly Gamer Edition is set to bring Super Mario to the game once more in an attempt to make the classic board game more appealing to “gamers”. The way they’re doing this is by shaking up the traditional game we love to hate by changing some of the mechanics. Rather than purchasing and developing properties, players can “complete levels” and collect coins instead.
There’s also the addition of power ups and boss battles that’ll see the game’s tokens, which include Mario, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi, take on some of the series’ “legendary bosses”.
The Power-up mechanic includes a brand new die to use and will give players boosts. You can see how these work in the video below:
The game is set to launch this August for $24.99 with “power packs” coming in at $2.99 that’ll include new tokens featuring Luigi, Boo, Rosalina, Wario and Diddy Kong. There’s also a collector’s edition coming in at $39.99 that’ll include a Bowser token.
