Everyone’s favourite transformer, Bumblebee is getting his own movie, and according to Empire (via TFW2005), that movie will be set in the 80s.

Paramount Pictures’ first Transformers spin-off movie is set to transport players back to a time where the Transformers fandom was at its peak: the 80s. Yep, apparently the spin-off Bumblebee movie will be set in the 1980s giving hope that we’ll finally see him as a yellow VW Beetle.

The report also claims that the upcoming movie will feature less Autobots and Decepticons than what we’ve come to expect in the main Transformers franchise. This makes a lot of sense considering it’ll be focusing on just one character rather than an entire cast of ‘bots.

The Bumblebee spin-off will also be aimed at younger audiences according to the report.

Hailee Steinfeld is set to star in the movie as a tomboy mechanic and Travis Knight will be directing. Christina Hodson, Brian Holdner, Stephen Davis, Lorezo Di Bonaventura, Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg are producing Bumblebee.
